As my yearly blog entry I have decided to voice my anger and hatred first for the show "American Idol" and second for it's most recent winner "David Cook". Ever since he started on the show and unfortunately won this no talent karaoke star has stolen my identity and thus all my hopes of achieving the highest ranking in Google for my name.I can't tell you how many times people have told me "David Cook, like the guy on American Idol?" and I just stare and want to scream every time. One of my friends even went as far as to compare me to the character in the movie "Office Space" who's name is Michael Bolton. How unfortunate, that is all I can say.

In my quest to achieve the top google site ranking for my name "David Cook" I am getting a lot closer. When you run a google search for "David Cook" (me) you come to find that there are approximately 50 million results. It has been my goal to reach the top of this list for the past year and I am inching ever closer. As of today I'm proud to say that my site's rank runs around 10 - 15 on average. A few more months and hopefully I'll reach the top of that list on a normal basis.I'm almost there!!!!Next goal once I reach the top of the "David Cook" ranking is to get to the top of the straight "David" search. A bit more daunting at 551 million results....one can dream.

Moved to Fredericksburg

Well it's been a long time since my last post and there has been a ton of things that have changed in my life since then. The largest is that I have picked up and moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia where I grew up for a lot of my childhood. My wife Melissa and I found a lovely little house to live in in the small neighborhood of Ferry Farm. Fredericksburg and Ferry Farm are both famous for being the childhood home of George Washington, so there's a lot of that historic stuff around here.It was definitely tough leaving southern California. I know this will work out best though!I also decided to stay working as a freelance developer. I've found the freelance lifestyle to be very agreeable to me.Please let me know if you're interested in my services. You can contact me by email and I'll be sure to get back to you ASAP.

The Weigh In

So it's been 5 weeks of going to the gym about 5 times a week for 2 - 2.5 hours per session. It's my last training session with my trainer Ryan Day. Since it's our last session together I need to weigh in to see if I'm making any progress.I step on the scale and what do I find....I'VE LOST 5 POUNDS!!!!So as we stand right now I'm at about 179 lbs. with about 20% body fat...just about half way to my goal of 173 lbs. and 17% body fat.So I'm pretty stoked, because for a while there I didn't feel like I was making any progress. Now that I've seen the progress it helps me to get my motor running to get to that goal...although I could get there faster but I'm not so good at following the diet Ryan laid out for me.Oh well...my next weigh in should be around new years day so we'll see how much progress I make by then...hopefully I'll be at my goal although I think it'll take a little more than another month to get there.BABY STEPS!

Lovely Thanksgiving

Well I'm back from a lovely Thanksgiving spent with my family up in Angels Camp, California. My wife's amazing parents (mom and dad #2 for me) had a time share condo up there in the mountainous area. There were a lot of vineyards and the foliage was really nice.I spent most the time doing absolutely nothing which is just the way I like it.I did get back into something that I hadn't done in years...puzzles! I used to do a lot of puzzles when I was a kid but about 10 years or so ago I stopped cold turkey. So while we were there I found that my lovely mother in law Linda had brought some puzzles with her. So I thought what the heck I'll give it a whirl...and before I knew it I was sucked in doing those things for hours at a time. The rest of my time I spent napping, watching tv, and relaxing in the hot tub! My brother in law (Justin) and I played 9 holes of golf at some championship course up there and needless to say we didn't really fit in, we had to borrow / buy clothes just to get in due to their dress code...it was fun though. Is a 60 on 9 holes of golf good?On Thanksgiving my mother in law OUT DID HERSELF!!!! She made a delicious dinner with Turkey and all the trimmings you could ever want...YUMMMMMM!!!!It was a really relaxing 4 days.

Started Working Out

I started working out about two weeks ago. I've been going to the gym five times a week (Sun, Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri). I do about 20 - 30 minutes of cardio each day and different weight training four days a week.I hired a trainer at 24 Hour Fitness to teach me how to weight train and to give me a plan to get back in shape. If you ask me, it's been worth every single penny. My trainer, Ryan Day, has done a great job of teaching me about how our body works related to working out, which has given me a better understanding of how to workout.I started out at 184 lbs and 24% body fat (barely acceptable ARGHH!!!). My goal is to get to 173 lbs and 17% body fat which means I'll pack on 4 pounds of muscle along with the fat loss.My trainer told me that if I maintain the workout routine and eat right then I can get to this goal in about 2 to 2.5 months. So hopefully I'll be able to keep up this rate.WHY DID I HAVE TO START WORKING OUT RIGHT AT THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS TIME?!?!?!?!

Bailey's Boot Camp

Me and Melissa shipped our dog Bailey off to doggy boot camp today. Bailey's got some agression problems with other dogs and needs to learn basic obediance so we shipped him off to Crossroads Pet Resort for six weeks of rigorous training.Crossroads is a pet training facility in Stanton, California (near Knotts Berry Farm). They specialize in dog agression and were recommended by my vetrinarian so I thought they'd be an excellent place for Bailey to go and train.I'm not going to lie, the training is a bit pricey. However, I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for so I'm think it'll be an excellent place. I actually worked out a deal with the owner of Crossroads to get Bailey his training for free in return that I would redesign their website. I think it's a great option that will provide great benefit for both of us.Bailey has a little bit of an attachment disorder too so hopefully they'll be able to remedy that as well. Bailey's a wonderful little guy, but he just needs to learn some manners, he's a bit naughty right now.We can go visit him (we're actually encouraged to) any time we want, so I plan on going over there every few days to see him.

Where is our government taking us when they take away our right to habeus corpus and we allow torture to possibly anyone? It's a sad day when these cornerstone freedoms that our country was founded on are taken away and we become prisoners to our own fear.
